MANUSCRIPTS

The University Library Mainz was founded in 1946 and therefore owns only a small number of historical material. However, the University Library was able to buy three medieval manuscripts during the first few years of its existence. Among these the richly decorated Brevarium Moguntinum stands out. It was manufactured for Prince Albert I. of Saxony around 1482. Prince Albert I. was the administrator of the Archbishopric of Mainz. You can find detailed information about the individual manuscripts on Handschriftencensus Rheinland-Pfalz.

Furthermore we present Hebrew manuscripts from the possession of the Jewish Community Mainz.
