ROTBUCH PUBLISHING
The archive of the Rotbuch publishing house takes up a unique position within the holdings of the Mainz Publishing Archive: Rotbuch, which split from the Wagenbach publishing house in 1973, was a collectively owned publishing company and thus had a special status in Germany. Rotbuch, being decidedly left-wing, was politically dedicated and consequently bears evidence of social and political transformations. It became a forum for eastern European and GDR authors by publishing their work in the FGR for the first time.
Our holdings provide concrete insights into the company’s history, internal decision-making processes, communication with authors and book trade, marketing and press relations as well as finances.
Parts of the Rotbuch Collection are now available via Visual Collections. Due to copyright reasons most of our holdings can only be viewed by appointment in our archive rooms.
